Ungava was a three man band formed by André Devito (guitar), Jacques Marois (percussions/vocals), and Richard Fortin (bass/vocals). They were joined by Martin Perron (keyboards) and Maurice Bouchard (sax/flute) on the group’s only self-titled album, released in 1977. Seeing as the LP was recorded in St-Fereol, the members of Ungava presumably originated from the Charlevoix area, north of Quebec City. Their style is in the harder progressive rock vein, making Ungava somewhat unique at the time, as Quebec’s music had gone decidedly folkier. The compositions are innovative and well played, resulting in yet another obscure gem in Quebec’s progressive past.
