Spectrum is an Australian progressive rock band which formed in April 1969 and broke up in April 1973. During October 1971, Spectrum formed a side project, Indelible Murtceps, using the same line-up of Mike Rudd on vocals and guitar, Lee Neale on electric piano, Bill Putt on bass guitar and Ray Arnott on drums. They performed at pubs, and local dances, playing a more dance/pop-oriented repertoire and using a simpler set-up than when performing as Spectrum. By September 1972 Neale had left both bands; he was replaced by John Mills on keyboards. In April 1973, Spectrum disbanded which also ended Indelible Murtceps. Mike Rudd, Bill Putt and John Mills co-founded in mid-1973 a new group, Ariel. Ray Arnott joined first Mighty Kong and after Mighty Kong disbanded at the end of 1973, he was a member of The Dingoes (1974–76), Ray Arnott Band (1978–80), Cold Chisel (1983–84) and Jimmy Barnes Band (1984–85). In 1999 Spectrum reformed as Spectrum Plays the Blues around the nucleus of Mike Rudd, Bill Putt, John Mills with the addition of some new members. They issued two albums, Spill (March 1999) and No Thinking (June 2004) before they trimmed the name back to Spectrum. Bill Putt passed away on 7 August 2013.
