The debut album by Malo is an absolute classic. Particularly cherished in the American west coast and southwest regions. The hit song ‘Sauvecito’ is circulated on radio to this day.
Guitarist Jorge Santana and Malo went on to record three more albums for Warner Bros. (minus ‘Sauvecito’ lead vocalist Richard Bean who would break away and form the band ‘Sapo’). Titled ‘Dos’ (1972), ‘Evolution’ (1973), and ‘Ascención’ (1974). Malo had been a Bay area based band, but for their 3rd album ‘Ascención’, they went down south to East Los Angeles to recruit lead vocalist Willie G from local legends ‘Thee Midniters’ of ’60s notoriety. Willie G’s voice can be heard also on the ‘God’s Children’ release, to be found here at Archeologia.

Three of four Malo albums were first reissued packaged together in 2001 as ‘¡Celebracion! — The Warner Bros. Recordings’. The debut title ‘Malo’ had been previously reissued in the ’90s as part of WB’s ‘Warner Archives’ series. An excellent series that first released ‘The Faces’ catalog on cd as well.
Another Malo reissue to surface in 2018 was a very cool treat. A compilation called ‘Malo — Latin Bugaloo: The Warner Bros. Singles’. This release is comprised of edited down versions of their lengthier styled tracks from their LPs. These singles are Malo’s 45″ format releases from the 1970s. ‘Latin Bugaloo’ also includes the edited version for ‘Just Say Goodbye’ (1972), previously unreleased on LP or cd.
